Vineyard and terroir
The Kerner grows at around 900 metres above sea level in the Bassa Atesina region, on sandy, limestone-rich gravel soils.
Grapes
Kerner is a cross between Trollinger (Schiava) and Riesling. It is named after the Swabian poet Justinus Kerner and produces spicy wines with delicate hints of nutmeg.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed. The must is cleared of suspended solids before fermentation in stainless steel tanks at a controlled 18–20 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures on its lees for around 6 months before bottling.
Vintage notes
The 2022 vintage received a gold medal at the "Mondial des Vins Extremes" competition in 2023.
Label / history
In the local dialect "Lahn" means avalanche. A landslide occurred some time ago in the mountains near the vineyards, and the wine from these vineyards takes its name from it. The label shows a stone-carved fountain beside the vineyard.
