Vineyard and terroir
The Feudi del Pisciotto winery lies on the island of Sicily, 7 km from the sea, between Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina. The estate has 40 ha of vineyards planted with local varieties, from Nero d'Avola to Frappato, as well as international grapes such as Merlot and Cabernet.
Grapes
Inzolia and Catarratto are usually blended in equal proportions, though the balance may vary slightly from one vintage to another. Catarratto was historically used to make Marsala, and the potential of both varieties is only now beginning to emerge.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in late August. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks. All must and wine are moved into the vats from above by gravity, a method considered particularly suitable and efficient. The winery is equipped with modern technology and can process up to 10,000 hectolitres.
Ageing
The wine ages for 6 months in stainless steel tanks, followed by 4 months in bottle. This preserves both the aromatic variety and the fresh character of the grapes. The old and new cellars are both used for ageing wine.
