Vineyard and terroir
The Chardonnay comes exclusively from the Éternelle vineyard at 700 m, where the site meets the coniferous forest on the foothills of the Apennines.
Grapes
100% Chardonnay.
Vinification
The 2014 grapes were harvested by hand into perforated 15 kg crates. At the cellar, the bunches were pressed slowly and gently, yielding 35 hL of cuvée. Fermentation was divided between stainless-steel vessels and French-oak barriques. Tirage took place in May after the harvest, initiating secondary fermentation in bottle.
Ageing
Éternelle spent eight years on its lees. The bottles were then riddled to collect the fine-yeast sediment in the neck and disgorged in June 2023. Extended bottle maturation followed.
Tasting profile
The 2014 is bright gold with a fine, persistent perlage. Its intense bouquet combines citrus, peach, apricot and yellow apple with delicate floral notes, hazelnut and almond. Pastry and bread-crust nuances emerge from the long period on the lees. Smooth effervescence gives the palate an elegant creaminess. It is fresh and savoury, broad, enveloping, harmonious and complex, with a long, rich and elegant finish.
Vintage notes
The 2014 winter was rainy and warmer than average. Mild spring conditions brought budbreak during the first ten days of April. Summer arrived early, with temperatures exceeding 30 °C at the beginning of June during flowering. July rain required careful vineyard work to keep the bunches healthy, while sunshine at the end of summer supported complete ripening.
