Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown near Vinci, in Cerreto Guidi and in other parts of Tuscany. Some of the winery’s vineyard land was seabed 4 million years ago, and ancient fossils can still be found between the vine rows.
Vinification
The must remains in contact with the skins for 8–10 days and ferments at 28–30 °C. Regular délestage keeps the cap wet.
Ageing
The wine is aged in stainless-steel tanks.
Label / history
The winery takes its name from Leonardo da Vinci and the wine from his painting, the Mona Lisa. Vinci, one of the wine’s grape-growing areas, was also the place from which Leonardo took his name.
Cantina Leonardo da Vinci was founded in 1961 when thirty small wineries combined their resources to build a shared cellar. Its vineyards initially covered 70 hectares and expanded to about 750 hectares over the following 50 years. At the end of the twentieth century, it acquired Fattoria Montalbano and Cantina di Montalcino.
DalleVigne was established in 2002 to market the cantina’s products and distribute them to the HoReCa sector in more than 50 countries. It later became part of Caviro, a cooperative founded in 1966 by independent wine producers.
