Label / history
The monument on the label honours Leonardo da Vinci, after whom Cantina Leonardo da Vinci was named. The winery was founded in 1961 when 30 small wineries combined their resources and shared the cost of constructing a large cellar. Its vineyards then covered 70 hectares and expanded to approximately 750 hectares over the following 50 years.
At the end of the 20th century, Cantina Leonardo da Vinci acquired the historic estates Fattoria Montalbano and Cantina di Montalcino. The “DalleVigne” organisation was established in 2002 to market its products and distribute them to the HoReCa sector in more than 50 countries. “DalleVigne” later became part of Caviro, a cooperative of independent wine producers founded in 1966. Caviro comprises 34 independent wine estates and more than 13,000 vineyards. Its average annual production is approximately 500 million litres, of which more than 200 million litres are exported.
