Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from vineyards at around 450 m on the southwestern slope of Montalcino. The Tenuta Friggiali estate descends toward a broad plain dotted with cypress groves and medieval castles. Its 20 ha of vineyards lie between 200 and 450 m and are divided into three named blocks. Strong winds regularly cross the estate, drying the vines quickly after rain and helping to protect them from common vine diseases.
Ageing
The wine rested for three months in French oak barriques, followed by two months in large Slovenian oak casks.
Tasting profile
Juicy acidity reflects the terroir. Sangiovese brings recognizable elegance, while Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon contribute roundness and a silky texture.
Label / history
The name Friggiali derives from the Latin “frigidi,” meaning “fresh and airy.” Giovanni Peluso initially bought 4 ha as a prospective hunting estate. After studying the soils and climate and consulting experts, he acquired a further 16 ha and planted vineyards.
The bottle has a distinctive label produced using an old technique in which gold powder decorates embossed details.
