Label / history
Winegrowing has a long history in Emilia-Romagna, where vines of the Vitis labrusca family, including Lambrusco, have been cultivated for centuries.
Cleto Chiarli founded Chiarli in 1860 after managing the Trattoria dell'Artigliere in central Modena. He initially made Lambrusco for the restaurant’s regular customers and began producing it for wider sale following its favourable reception. The source identifies Chiarli as the oldest producer of Lambrusco and other wines in Emilia-Romagna.
