Cleto Chiarli founded the company in 1860 after managing Trattoria dell'Artigliere in central Modena, where he made Lambrusco for the restaurant’s regular guests. Their positive reception prompted him to produce it for wider sale. The Chiarli family owns more than 90 ha of vineyards in the Lambrusco D.O.C. production area. The Lambrusco grape was known during the Roman Empire and has a long winemaking tradition.
