Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in the hills of Sant’Angelo at 350 metres. The south-facing vineyards were planted in 1974. The local growing conditions include spring rain followed by high temperatures in July and August.
Grapes
The wine is made exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello).
Vinification
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, then selected in the vineyard and again in the cellar on sorting tables. Fermentation and maceration last 25 days in low, wide stainless-steel tanks at a controlled temperature not exceeding 28 °C. The tanks’ shape increases contact between the skins and must.
Ageing
The wine ages for four years in barrels made from French Allier and Slavonian oak, followed by about two years in bottle in a conditioned cellar. The 2006 vintage was bottled on 21–22 July 2011.
Tasting profile
Extended ageing gives the wine a mature, rounded and complex character.
