Vineyard and terroir
Inzolia is grown in the Trapani countryside at Tenuta Dàgala Borromeo. The vineyard is south-west facing at 310 m a.s.l., with medium-textured soil tending toward clay. Vines are planted at 4,500–5,000 per hectare and trained on vertical trellises with Guyot pruning. Yield is 80 quintals per hectare. Day-to-night temperature variation helps shape the semi-aromatic character of the variety.
Grapes
100% Inzolia.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand between the first and second ten-day periods of September. They undergo gentle pressing and temperature-controlled fermentation. Malolactic fermentation is completed.
Ageing
Three months on fine lees in stainless-steel tanks with periodic stirring are followed by at least four months in bottle.
Technical data
IGT Terre Siciliane. Alcohol: 13%.
Tasting profile
Brilliant, lightly shaded straw yellow, almost green. The delicate, fine bouquet combines pineapple, mango and papaya with almond, lime, wisteria, iris, acacia and Mediterranean herbs. Freshness and concentrated fruit give the palate a lively, savoury, approachable character. The finish returns to almond and marine salinity.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 10–12°C.
Vintage notes
The latest vintage described is 2022. Moderate winter temperatures, no spring frost, replenishing winter rain and a sunny, low-humidity summer preserved excellent grape health. Production was strong in both quantity and quality despite the warm season.
In 2021, abundant winter rain restored soil-water reserves, followed by a relatively cool spring and early summer. Inzolia was harvested during the first ten days of September and produced tropical-fruit and Mediterranean-herb notes.
The 2020 season combined warmer-than-average winter temperatures with drought from May into late summer. Earlier growth and reduced bunch weight lowered production, particularly among white varieties, while increasing sugars, polyphenols and aromatic components.
In 2018, abundant winter and spring rainfall and a comparatively moderate summer preserved higher acidity. Inzolia was picked in mid-September; the resulting profile was expected to combine aromatic finesse with balance.
Label / history
Inzolia was long central to Sicilian wine production. Chiaramonte Inzolia presents it as a varietal wine from the fertile land of Dàgala Borromeo, emphasizing freshness, minerality and its semi-aromatic nature.
