Vineyard and terroir
The Sangiovese is grown at Tenuta di Monterufoli, Monteverdi Marittimo, in the province of Pisa. The estate lies between Val di Cecina and Val di Cornia. Poggio Miniera was conceived to express this historically rich territory and its distinctive aromatic character.
Grapes
Sangiovese.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand into crates. Fermentation and maceration take place in stainless-steel tanks at a controlled maximum temperature of 26°C, with daily pump-overs and délestage. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, the wine undergoes several additional days of post-fermentation maceration at 32°C.
Ageing
After racking, the wine remains in stainless steel until the end of winter. It is then transferred to oak for approximately one year, followed by a long period of bottle ageing.
Tasting profile
The colour is intense ruby red. The nose combines ripe red fruit with spices and balsamic nuances. Full and rounded on the palate, it has substantial structure and length, well-balanced tannins and a savoury finish.
Label / history
Poggio Miniera was created as an ambitious expression of Val di Cornia, using Sangiovese to convey the aromas of its place of origin. Its structure is presented as giving it considerable potential for ageing.
