Vinification
The grapes are harvested at night in August and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees for 5–6 months, divided equally between small concrete tanks and French oak barrels from Burgundy. After bottling, it remains in the winery’s cellars for at least 24 months.
Tasting profile
Elegant and complex, with a strong personality, refinement, and a balance of power and sweetness.
Label / history
The wine debuted in 1992 as Chiaranda del Merlo, named after the vineyards in which its grapes were grown. Ten years later, the name was shortened to Chiaranda and a female figure was added to the label to represent the wine’s complexity and refinement.
Through Chiaranda, Donnafugata joined Wine for Life, a movement that raises funds to fight AIDS in Africa.
