Vineyard and terroir

Nassone is a historic Dolcetto vineyard at the summit of Serradenari hill in the municipality of La Morra. The technical altitude is 480 m a.s.l., while the estate’s narrative rounds the hilltop position to approximately 500 m. The site faces south to south-west and has calcareous-clay soil. Its long-established vines are Guyot trained, though their precise age is not given.

Grapes

Dolcetto.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested manually in the second half of September, then destemmed and crushed. Maceration and fermentation take place in temperature-controlled tanks at 25–26°C for 5–6 days, with daily pump-overs. Malolactic fermentation follows.

Ageing

The wine matures in oak vessels of different capacities. Bottle ageing can add complexity, although the wine is also pleasurable in youth.

Tasting profile

The wine page describes an impenetrable ruby colour and aromas of plum and blackberry interwoven with violet and currant. The technical sheet describes ruby red with violet reflections, a fresher bouquet of violet and cherry, and a well-balanced structure with a pleasantly almond-like finish. It has good body and a measured tannic presence, allowing it to remain enjoyable after several years.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16–18°C. Suitable throughout a meal, particularly with traditional Piedmontese appetizers, delicate first courses, white or red meats and medium-aged cheeses. Vegetarian dishes and Caesar salad are also suggested.

Label / history

Dolcetto Superiore is presented as a niche denomination in the Langhe. Nassone’s high-altitude historic vines give the wine its strongly defined personality.
