Vineyard and terroir
The native red grape varieties are grown in the central and western Sicilian areas of Agrigento and Caltanissetta, at 100–250 m above sea level. The vineyards have predominantly mixed soils with significant limestone content. Vines are trained on vertical trellises and planted at more than 4,000 vines per hectare. The climate brings mild winters and hot, dry summers.
Vinification
Harvest runs from the second half of September through the first week of October. Traditional vinification includes maceration on the skins. Each grape variety undergoes malolactic fermentation separately, followed by filtration; the resulting wines are then blended.
Ageing
The blend matures in large enamel-lined tanks for at least five months, followed by two months in bottle in cool cellars.
