Label / history
Pater belongs to the range "The classics. The modern". The labels in this range carry the Frescobaldi family crest, created by the artist Ghirlandaio in the fifteenth century, which represents the union of tradition and innovation.
The Marchesi de' Frescobaldi family has grown grapes in the heart of Tuscany for 700 years, and its name is closely tied to the region's history of art, culture and trade. In the fourteenth century the family supplied wine to the English Crown and to the courts of many European countries. From the second half of the twentieth century Frescobaldi played a leading role in the development of Tuscan winemaking. It was among the first to plant varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot and Pinot, and to introduce new winemaking methods. In 1989 the family acquired the largest estate in the Brunello region. In 1995 it signed an agreement with a California winery to establish a joint venture in Tuscany. Frescobaldi now owns nine estates in Tuscany and exports to more than 60 countries.
