Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes grow in central Tuscany at 200–300 metres above sea level. The soils contain clay and sand. Planting density ranges from 2,200 to 5,500 vines per hectare.
Vinification
Harvest is by hand, from late September to early October. The must macerates on the skins for 9 days, then ferments for 12 days in stainless steel tanks at no more than 30 °C. Malolactic fermentation follows immediately.
Ageing
The wine rests for 5 months in stainless steel tanks and 2 months in bottle. After bottling it spends a further 2 months in bottle.
Label / history
Remole is made by the Marchesi de' Frescobaldi family, who have grown grapes in the heart of Tuscany for 700 years. In the 14th century the family supplied wine to the English Crown and to the courts of several European countries. From the second half of the 20th century they were among the first in Tuscany to plant varieties such as Chardonnay, Cabernet, Merlot and Pinot, and to introduce new winemaking methods. In 1989 they acquired the largest estate in the Brunello region. In 1995 they agreed a joint venture in Tuscany with a Californian winery. Frescobaldi now owns nine estates and exports to more than 60 countries.
