Vineyard and terroir
DELARA comes from a 6-hectare vineyard in the Commune of Cavaion and represents the Montebaldo cru within the Bardolino denomination. The pebbly soil is of glacial-moraine origin, over a sandy-silty base with medium calcareous content and high magnesium levels. The vines are 20 years old, trained to simple Guyot and planted at a density of 5,000 vines per hectare on 420A rootstock.
Grapes
The 2023 blend is 95% Corvina and 5% Rondinella. This is the highest proportion of Corvina used in a Guerrieri Rizzardi wine and shapes DELARA’s distinctive red-berry, spice and cherry profile, together with the gentle tannic character associated with Corvina grown around Cavaion.
Vinification
The grapes are destemmed and undergo alcoholic fermentation in stainless-steel vats for 10 days at 23–30°C. Malolactic fermentation follows in vats.
Ageing
The wine matures for 12 months in stainless-steel vats. The first bottling of the 2023 vintage took place on 18 February 2025.
Technical data
The 2023 vintage has 13.5% alcohol, total acidity of 5.40 g/L, pH 3.48 and residual sugar of 1.4 g/L. Production amounted to 13,333 bottles.
Tasting profile
Bright and light in colour, DELARA has a visual delicacy reminiscent of red Burgundy, while its aromas and palate retain a distinctly Italian identity. Floral and fruity notes combine with vibrant intensity and the fine cherry character of Corvina. Red berries and spices accompany a very gentle, smooth tannic structure. The palate is balanced and elegant, with a long-lasting finish.
Serving and pairing
Recommended with grilled white meats, roast poultry, mildly seasoned pork stews or casseroles, and substantial fish such as tuna, salmon or halibut. It is best enjoyed from one to more than five years after the vintage.
