Vineyard and terroir
The Chardonnay and Viognier come from vineyards in Menfi (AG), close to and overlooking Porto Palo beach. The site lies 20 m above sea level on medium-textured soil with a sandy tendency. Vines are trained to spurred cordon at a density of 5,900 plants per hectare, with a yield of 70 quintals per hectare. Harvest takes place in the first half of August.
Grapes
50% Chardonnay and 50% Viognier. Tirsat was the first wine produced by Gurra di Mare, whose vineyards extend toward Porto Palo beach. The first vintage was 2011.
Vinification
Vinified in steel tanks at controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation is completed.
Ageing
The wine remains in steel for 9 months on the lees with bâtonnage, followed by 2 months in bottle.
Technical data
Terre Siciliane IGT. Available in 750 ml bottles. It is conceived as a structured white wine with longevity.
Tasting profile
Golden yellow in colour. The complex, intense nose combines apricot, yellow peach, white flowers, spices and honey. The palate has sweet, exotic intensity balanced by pleasant freshness, giving the wine a harmonious profile.
Serving and pairing
Suited to raw fish, shellfish, fried fish, swordfish rolls and fish-based pasta dishes. It can also accompany medium-aged cheeses.
