Vineyard and terroir
The fruit is grown in Controguerra at 295 m above sea level, on fairly loose soils containing a small proportion of clay. The area lies in northern Abruzzo between the Adriatic and the Apennines.
Vinification
Harvesting begins after inspection and selection of the vines. Cabernet Sauvignon is usually picked at the beginning of October, followed by Montepulciano between 8 and 12 October. The grapes are destemmed and gently crushed, then each variety ferments separately in stainless-steel tanks at 28–30 °C for 15 days. The wines undergo malolactic fermentation before blending.
Ageing
The blend rests for approximately 18 months in 225 L barrels made from different types of oak, followed by a further 12–14 months in bottle in the winery’s cellars.
Tasting profile
The nose has intense berry and fruit aromas, while the palate is rich.
Label / history
The name “Lumen” is Latin for “light.” The wine is produced only in selected years.
