Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The Sangiovese comes from the historic Sezzana vineyard, planted at 160 m above sea level on rocky soils containing travertine. The vines average 30 years of age.
Vinification
Maceration and fermentation take place for 10 days in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Malolactic fermentation follows in French oak barrels, half of them new.
Ageing
The wine remains in the same French oak barrels for 24 months, then matures in bottle for at least another 100 months. It is released after 12 years in the cellar.
Tasting profile
Bold and persistent, with a polished, well-defined style and firm tannins. The structure is notable, and the wine is approachable upon release.
Label / history
Sezzana is produced only in the finest vintages. Casanova was founded in 2001 in Terricciola, between Pisa and Volterra, amid the rolling hills of Chianti. Its vineyards cover about 65 ha. Chief winemaker Giorgio Rivetti favours the exclusive cultivation of local varieties rather than French grapes.
