Vineyard and terroir
The Negroamaro grows on the fertile, rich land of the Salento peninsula, an area with a long winemaking tradition. The climate is warm and Mediterranean, and the soils are clay and silt. The vines have an average age of 10 years.
Vinification
The grapes are usually harvested by hand in late September. They are destemmed, then macerated and fermented at a controlled 20–22 °C for 8–10 days.
Ageing
The wine rests for at least 3 months in stainless-steel tanks. After bottling it matures a further 2 months in the winery's cellars to develop its aroma and flavour.
Tasting profile
Well balanced, with rich fruit and berry notes in a delicate aroma. The palate is smooth and velvety. The character is bright and distinctive.
Label / history
Made by Leone de Castris, a winery in Puglia founded in 1665.
