Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from a small 3.5 ha vineyard at an altitude of 300 m.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested at full ripeness and macerated for 15–18 days with frequent pumping over. Fermentation uses selected yeasts.
Ageing
The wine ages for 9–12 months in a combination of new and previously used oak barrels, followed by more than six months in bottle before release.
Serving and pairing
Open the bottle one hour before serving.
Label / history
The wine takes its name from Niccolò Machiavelli’s most important work, Il Principe.
The historic Machiavelli farm in Sant' Andrea in Percussina was inherited by Niccolò Machiavelli from his father. Machiavelli wrote his works there and continued his father’s tradition of cultivating vineyards and olive groves. The estate has since been restored, while its historic cellar has been preserved and remains in use for ageing the estate’s wines. The winery is part of Gruppo Italiano Vini (GIV).
