Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards lie at 300–350 m, on soils of marl, clay shale and limestone. Yields are 7.5 t/ha.
Grapes
Sangiovese accounts for 85% of the blend, complemented by other red varieties permitted under Chianti production regulations.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in September and October. Fermentation takes place at 25 °C, with two weeks of maceration.
Ageing
The wine matures for one year in small and medium-sized French oak barrels, followed by three months in bottle.
Label / history
The wine takes its name from Tani, the winemaker who tended the Solatio farm, part of Niccolò Machiavelli’s historic estate in Sant’ Andrea in Percussina. Machiavelli inherited the farm from his father, wrote his works there and continued the family tradition of tending vineyards and olive groves. The estate has since been restored, while its historic cellar has been preserved and remains in use for ageing Machiavelli wines.
