Vineyard and terroir
The fruit comes from the producer's own vineyards in the municipalities of Bucine, Monte San Savino and Rapolano Terme. The vines are around 20 years old and grow at 500 metres above sea level in sandy soils containing slate.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand at optimal ripeness and sorted at the winery. They are fermented on their skins in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 20–25 days, then gently pressed.
Ageing
The wine ages for 12–18 months in French oak barriques and tonneaux. The wines are then blended and bottled.
Vintage notes
2018: most experts considered it an exceptionally good year for Tuscany. Heavy rain and hail damaged some Sangiovese vineyard plots, but favourable summer weather, with hot days and cooler nights, produced a strong, healthy crop. The season's red wines showed juicy fruit, good acidity and structure. The 2018 was expected to remain at its peak through 2025.
The 2018 vintage received a gold medal at the San Francisco International Wine Competition.
