Vineyard and terroir
The Chardonnay is grown on clay-limestone soils in Salento. The vineyards occupy small hills and plains in a warm climate. Fruit from different vineyards is blended to add complexity, structure, aromatic range and depth.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in mid-August, followed by a short maceration and gentle pressing. Fermentation takes place at 12 °C to preserve the fruit’s aromas and flavours and retain freshness. The wines are made near the vineyards, then blended and bottled at the Li Veli winery.
Ageing
The wine rests on its lees in stainless-steel tanks.
Tasting profile
Distinctively fresh, with complexity, structure, a broad aromatic range and depth of flavour.
Label / history
The Falvo family, owners of the Li Veli winery in Puglia, created the independent Contrade project in 2015. Its name derives from the Latin for “plot of land” and refers to named vineyards bounded by olive trees, stone walls or other natural features. The label carries a redesigned image of a window from the Basilica di Santa Croce in Lecce.
