Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards are in the San Marco area, with southwest exposure. Their clay soils contain limestone. The vines are 10 years old on average and planted at a density of 5,120 vines per hectare.
Grapes
Negroamaro and Primitivo are used in equal proportions.
Vinification
Primitivo is harvested from the last week of August into early September; Negroamaro is picked during the final two weeks of September. All grapes are harvested by hand, immediately sorted and sent to the press. Alcoholic fermentation takes place under temperature control at 27–31 °C. The wines then undergo malolactic fermentation in French oak barrels.
Ageing
The wine ages for four months in 225-litre barrels.
