Vermentino di Sardegna: Sardinia’s much-loved white wine
The article locates Mesa’s Vermentino vineyards between Porto Pino and Sant’Anna Arresi, among gently descending hills, sandy dunes, saline lagoons and Mediterranean vegetation. Sun exposure and salt-bearing winds are connected with fresh acidity, iodine-like aromas and savory structure. Vermentino’s semi-aromatic character and resistance to hot, dry Sardinian summers are emphasized.
Giunco is presented as the youngest and most immediate interpretation, named after reeds moving in the Porto Pino sea wind. Opale is the more intense and structured expression, combining ripe fruit, Mediterranean vegetation and sweet spice. Galesa is produced in limited quantities, dedicated to founders Gavino and Lella Sanna and associated with sandy coastal vineyards, flamingos and African sunlight.
