Vineyard and terroir
Grenache comes from a 22-year-old Montebamboli vineyard facing southeast. The vines are trained to spur-pruned cordon at a density of 6,200 vines per hectare. The vineyard lies in the hills of the Colline Metallifere within a natural park of approximately 7,000 hectares, overlooking the Val di Cornia and around 10 km from the Tyrrhenian coast. The site is highly ventilated, receives about 700 mm of rainfall annually and is surrounded by Mediterranean scrub, including holm oak, cork oak, broom and strawberry tree.
Grapes
100% Grenache. The variety is also known locally as Alicante; its broader Mediterranean names include Cannonau in Sardinia and Garnacha in Spain.
Vinification
The grapes are picked by hand at the end of September, with careful bunch selection followed by optical berry sorting. Fermentation takes place in open tanks at 20–25°C. Depending on the vintage, 20–30% of the fruit is fermented as whole bunches. Maceration lasts 20 days, with gentle extraction and limited pump-overs to preserve red-fruit and sweet-spice expression.
Ageing
The wine matures exclusively in concrete for 6–9 months, followed by six months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Pale yet exceptionally bright ruby with hibiscus-like reflections. The aromatic profile brings together cherry, raspberry and pomegranate with blood orange, sweet spices and white pepper. Thyme, bay leaf, rosemary and garrigue provide a distinctly Mediterranean herbal dimension. The palate opens softly and has volume without heaviness. Tannins are low, while the enveloping finish remains juicy and highly drinkable.
Serving and pairing
Serve cool at 12–14°C. Its low tannin and supple, juicy profile suit fresh Mediterranean dishes, particularly fish-based preparations.
