Vineyard and terroir
The 1.09 ha vineyard lies on the volcanic island of Pantelleria, faces west and reaches approximately 135 m above sea level. Its volcanic ground supports about 2,498 vines per hectare. The vines are trained in the traditional Alberello Pantesco system recognized by UNESCO.
Pantelleria lies southwest of Sicily and closer to Africa than to continental Europe. The island’s Arabic-derived name is associated with the phrase “Daughter of the Wind,” reflecting the persistent breezes that shape its climate. Annual rainfall is around 350 mm, while nocturnal moisture is captured through traditional agricultural structures, including the jardinu and hollows beneath the vines.
Grapes
100% Zibibbo, also known as Moscato d’Alessandria or Moscatellone. The variety was introduced to Sicily by the Arabs. On Pantelleria it develops large, sweet berries with an intense perfume.
Label / history
Presented as a wine of the Mediterranean, Passito di Nika reflects Pantelleria’s volcanic landscape and its long Arabic heritage. Zibibbo, the traditional Pantelleria grape behind both Moscato and Passito, forms the wine’s entire varietal composition.
