Label / history
The vermouth is made according to a recipe dating from 1922 and is named after Cesare da Sesto, the Renaissance painter who studied under Leonardo da Vinci and created numerous works. The term “vermouth” derives from the German “wermut,” meaning “wormwood.”
Turin is traditionally regarded as the birthplace of vermouth, while Hippocrates is credited with devising its original recipe. In the 17th century, Alessio, a native of Piedmont, introduced vermouth to the King of Bavaria, who made it a favourite at his court. Antonio Benedetto Carpano began the first large-scale production of vermouth in Turin in 1786.
