Label / history
The name honours Cesare da Sesto, a Renaissance painter who studied under Leonardo and created numerous works. The word “vermouth” derives from the German “Wermut,” meaning “wormwood.” Turin is traditionally regarded as the birthplace of vermouth, while Hippocrates is credited with its original recipe. In the 17th century, Alessio, a native of Piedmont, introduced vermouth to the King of Bavaria, after which it became a favourite at his court. In 1786, Antonio Benedetto Carpano established the first large-scale production of vermouth in Turin.
