Label / history
The word “vermouth” derives from the German “wermut,” meaning wormwood. Turin is traditionally regarded as vermouth’s birthplace, while Hippocrates is credited with creating its recipe. In the 17th century, Alessio, a native of Piedmont, introduced vermouth to the King of Bavaria, after which it became a favourite at his court. Antonio Benedetto Carpano established the first large-scale production of vermouth in Turin in 1786.
