Vineyard and terroir
The vines face south and southwest and are planted at 4,000–5,000 vines per hectare. The clay-loam soil contains plentiful rocky fragments and coarse skeletal material. Training follows the traditional Tuscan arched-cane system (capovolto toscano).
Grapes
100% Colorino.
Vinification
The mechanically harvested grapes undergo careful selection around mid-September. Soft crushing and destemming precede three weeks of skin maceration with frequent pump-overs. Alcoholic fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts in cement tanks, where malolactic fermentation also takes place.
Ageing
Maturation takes place in French-oak barriques, followed by at least six months in bottle.
Tasting profile
Deep red shading toward violet. The aroma combines very ripe wild berries with clove, aromatic herbs, violet and a light tobacco note. The palate is supple, soft, balanced, warm and intense, with polished velvety tannins and a long finish.
