Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes come from vineyards in Puglia, in the south of the Italian Peninsula. They are harvested in late September and early October, by which time they have begun to raisin slightly on the vine and have lost much of their moisture. This gives less juice but richer, more aromatic wines.
Vinification
All the grapes are sorted by hand. Vinification is traditional, at a controlled temperature.
Ageing
The wine is aged for 12 months in concrete tanks before bottling.
Tasting profile
A juicy red with a richer, more aromatic character than wines from unshrivelled fruit.
Label / history
"Badia al Colle" is a Piccini range showcasing Puglia, made exclusively from the native Primitivo and Negroamaro. According to legend, it was created as a tribute to the monks who preserved the winemaking traditions and standards inherited from the ancient Greeks and Romans through the Middle Ages, when winemaking was in decline and the monks were the only keepers of its secrets. The name means "Abbey Hill" and honours their centuries-old legacy.
