Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from Podere Prospero, an estate along Via Bolgherese at Castagneto Carducci in Bolgheri. Carla Prospero acquired the small Tuscan property in 2003, among olive groves and vineyards planted to Cabernet and Merlot. The vineyards lie at an average elevation of 50 m above sea level on well-drained, sunny, medium-textured soils tending toward sandy. The vines average 25 years of age and are trained to spur-pruned cordon, with a yield of 55 quintals per hectare (5.5 t/ha).

Grapes

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 20% Merlot.

Vinification

Harvest takes place during the last ten days of September. Cold pre-fermentation maceration is followed by alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature.

Ageing

The wine matures for 16–18 months in 225 L barriques, then spends approximately two months in steel tanks. Further bottle ageing precedes release.

Tasting profile

Deep ruby red. The bouquet combines small red forest fruits with black pepper and balsamic nuances; the broader aromatic profile also includes sage, spices and a subtle vegetal note. The palate is rich, silky and harmonious, with good freshness and concentration, well-integrated sweetness, ripe, finely textured tannins and an elegant, persistent finish.

Serving and pairing

Serve at 16°C. Pair with poultry, grilled meats and aged cheeses; its style also accommodates a broad range of dishes.

Label / history

Carla Prospero purchased the estate in 2003 to develop a personal interpretation of Bolgheri shaped by the property’s Tuscan setting and her own sensibility.
