Label / history
The name Castello del Monte refers to Emperor Frederick II’s castle, a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.
Cantina Puianello was founded in 1938 by five winemaking families seeking to produce the classic wines of Emilia-Romagna. The cooperative subsequently expanded to 300 ha of vineyards, 80% of them on mountain slopes. Following its merger with Coviolo in 2005, it comprised 398 members and 436 ha of vineyards. The winery and its equipment underwent a major renovation in 2012.
