Pittura Fresca

Pittura Fresca opened on 1 September 2022 and continued until 17 September in the estate’s event space. The exhibition paid tribute to Italian contemporary art of the 1980s and 1990s, a period portrayed as uncertain yet creatively propulsive, when photography, plastics and other mixed materials joined canvas as artistic media.

The presentation ranged from the Pop Art of Mario Schifano, Tano Festa and Mario Mambor to Carla Accardi’s abstraction and Dadamaino’s geometric-perceptual work. Curator Giuseppe Frangi identified energy, vitality and chromatic freedom as links among the exhibits, describing artists who reacted against intellectualist dominance by rediscovering painting as a liberating experience.

Lucia Satta connected the exhibition with an estate identity rooted in Italian culture, respect for tradition without submission to fixed models, and an openness to the future through younger generations. The event formed part of a long-running cultural programme related to the same care, research, observation and experimentation applied to wine first by Michele and later by Giacomo.

Pittura Fresca coincided with Bolgheri DiVino, the public tasting initiative organised by the Consorzio Bolgheri e Bolgheri Sassicaia at Castello della Gherardesca and Frantoio di Casa Carducci.
