Label / history
The idea for Tua Rosa arose during a walk through the rose garden at Fattoria di Calappiano, a historic Medici residence owned by the Sensi family. The property is also known as Villa degli Inglesi because Henry Savage Landor bought it in the mid-19th century. Henry, a grandson of the poet Walter Savage Landor, was an artist, explorer, writer and anthropologist, as well as a Shakespeare biographer and close friend of Dickens. The Fattoria preserves ancient finds and souvenirs from his journeys.
Its garden contains numerous rose varieties, including a particularly old and fragrant rose that Henry brought back from the English coast. It is thought to be the historic rose that the English poet William Landor, identified in the source as Henry’s grandfather, dedicated to Elfrida Mangioni of Florence when proposing marriage. This story inspired the Sensi winemakers to create the wine.
