Vineyard and terroir
The Syrah is grown on the estate’s sandy-clay land in the province of Monreale, southwest of Palermo, Sicily, with a north-eastern exposure. The estate comprises 180 ha, of which 100 ha are planted with vines at elevations of 300–450 m on stony soils.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested in September, then macerated and fermented at a controlled temperature of 22–25 °C.
Ageing
The wine matures in concrete vats, followed by six months in bottle.
Label / history
The estate’s winemaking history began in the 1960s, when Duke Pietro Spadafora, a descendant of an ancient aristocratic family, inherited the property. His son, oenologist Francesco Spadafora, subsequently expanded the vineyards significantly.
