Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown at the Regaleali estate, at 530 metres above sea level. The southwest-facing vineyards have sandy and clay soils, and the vines were planted in 1986 and 1997.
Vinification
Harvest takes place from late August to early September. After pressing, the wine ferments for 15 days at 18 °C in French barriques made from Allier and Tronçais oak. It does not undergo malolactic fermentation.
Ageing
The wine matures for eight months in French barriques, 70% of which are replaced each year, followed by six months in bottle.
Label / history
In the early 1980s, Lucio Tasca began experimenting with French grape varieties after recognising their potential in Sicily. The trials were initially conducted in secret because his father, Giuseppe Tasca Sr., opposed the idea and the varieties were banned in Sicily at the time. After the first release, Giuseppe Tasca Sr. became convinced of the project’s potential; Sicilian wine regulators later accepted these varieties as well. The wine made its official debut in 1989.
