Vineyard and terroir
The Sangiovese Grosso (Brunello) comes from three separate plots, each with its own geographical and climatic conditions, on different sides of the Montalcino hill. The vines are 20 years old on average. The three exposures are:
- north-east, mainly around the estate;
- south-west, very close to Sant'Angelo in Colle;
- south-east, near the Abbey of Sant'Antimo, where more recently planted vineyards predominate.
Val di Suga covers 120 hectares, fifty of them under vine.
Vinification
The grapes from the three vineyards are fermented separately at 25–27 °C, followed by 20–25 days of skin contact.
Ageing
The wine spends 24 months in 50-hectolitre Slavonian oak barrels, then a further 12 months in concrete vats. After bottling it rests at least 12 more months in the winery's cellars.
Tasting profile
Combining fruit from the three terroirs gives a balance of freshness, texture, body and elegance. The wine is very balanced and harmonious.
Vintage notes
The vintage is expected to reach peak maturity between 2025 and 2037. The source gives the vintage as "20119", which is evidently a typo, so no year is stated here.
