Vineyard and terroir
La Rosa d’Oro belongs to Tenuta Marcianella in Chiusi, Tuscany. The vineyards lie at approximately 320 metres above sea level, on sand-and-clay soils. The vines are about 20 years old and trained using the Guyot system.
Grapes
Sangiovese and Syrah.
Vinification
Fermentation takes place in stainless-steel vats at a controlled temperature of 28°C. Maceration lasts approximately 15 days. Once malolactic fermentation has finished, the wine is transferred to oak barrels for a brief period of maturation.
Ageing
Short maturation in oak barrels.
Tasting profile
Intense ruby red in colour, with a pronounced fruity bouquet. Ripe red fruit is prominent, particularly cherries and blackberries. The palate is round, sweet-fruited and soft, leading to a persistent finish.
Serving and pairing
Serve at 18°C with roasted or salt-cured white and red meat, cheeses or traditional Mediterranean first courses. Store at a constant temperature of approximately 17°C, protected from light.
Label / history
The name means “The Golden Rose.” The Golden Rose was the Catholic Church’s most prestigious distinction for a city and a symbol of special favour. Pope Alexander VII entrusted Michelangelo Bonci Casuccini with presenting this gift to Siena.
