Vineyard and terroir
The vineyards are planted on fertile volcanic soils in Campania, in southern Italy between the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Apennines. The climate brings dry, hot summers with plenty of sunshine, mild winters and a long growing season. Mediterranean breezes from the Tyrrhenian Sea soften the heat and help the grapes retain lively acidity.
Vinification
Organic practices are followed in both vineyard and cellar, with minimal intervention. During the first 3–4 days after harvest the wine is made by a traditional method with daily pumping over, which continues through the initial stage until alcoholic fermentation is complete. The skins are gently pressed to create the best conditions for malolactic fermentation to begin.
Ageing
Before ageing, the wine is racked two or three times. It is then aged partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in 500-litre barrels.
Label / history
Aglianico is an ancient variety whose origins are difficult to trace, and its history is surrounded by legends.
