Vineyard and terroir
The estate’s 25 hectares of vineyards extend along both sides of the historic Claudia Augusta road, a few kilometres from the Adriatic coast and close to Treviso, in the Vin Piave production area. The soils are predominantly clay, fertile and rich in mineral salts. The nearby Piave River contributes a distinctive character to wines from grapes grown along its banks. The warm south-westerly Libeccio wind, locally called Garbin, regularly passes over the vines, helping to preserve the grapes’ character and carrying aromas from the Venetian Lagoon.
Grapes
The proportions of the four varieties vary from year to year.
Vinification
Only fully ripe, healthy bunches are selected in the vineyard. After destemming and crushing, the grapes are transferred to tanks for fermentation.
Ageing
After fermentation, the wine matures in oak barrels for two years, followed by further ageing in bottle in the winery’s cellars.
Label / history
The wine takes its name from Garbin, the local name for the warm south-westerly Libeccio wind. Its line name, 47 Anno Domini, refers to 47 AD, the year Emperor Claudius completed the Claudia Augusta, an important Roman road that now runs through the winery’s vineyards.
The wine received gold medals at the Sommelier Wine Awards 2016 and Mundus Vini 2014, silver medals at Mundus Vini 2015 and the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2014, and Commended status at the Decanter Word Wine Award 2015.
