Vineyard and terroir
The Moscato grapes are grown in Veneto and harvested at ideal ripeness. The estate has 25 hectares of vineyards on both sides of the historic Claudia Augusta road, a few kilometres from the Adriatic coast and close to Treviso. The fertile soils consist mainly of clay and are rich in mineral salts. The nearby Piave River gives a distinctive character to wines from grapes grown along its banks.
Vinification
The grapes are destemmed and pressed, and the juice is separated from the skins. It is chilled, clarified, sterile-filtered and stored at 0–2 °C. Selected yeasts suited to sparkling-wine production are added, and fermentation takes place in an autoclave. The wine is then chilled to −2 °C to preserve its sweetness and aromas. After 10 days, it is filtered and bottled.
Ageing
The wine is at its most aromatically fresh during the first year after bottling.
Tasting profile
Delicate and elegant floral and fruity aromas lead to a balanced palate combining sweetness and acidity with a subtle salty note.
Label / history
The name 47 Anno Domini refers to 47 AD, the year in which Emperor Claudius completed the Claudia Augusta, an important Roman road used for communication across the empire. The road now runs through the winery, with its vineyards lying on both sides.
