Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in Veneto in northern Italy. The winery has 25 hectares of vineyards on both sides of the historic Claudia Augusta road, a few kilometres from the Adriatic coast and close to Treviso. The soils are predominantly clay and rich in mineral salts. Cabernet Sauvignon is planted on the tougher, more difficult-to-farm sites. The nearby Piave River gives a distinctive character to wines from vineyards along its banks.

The wine is made using classic methods.

Label / history
The name Piantaferro combines the Italian words pianta, meaning plant or crop, and ferro, meaning iron or rod. It refers to a local farming tradition of marking newly discovered fertile land by driving a stake into the ground. The trademark depicts three stylized rows of vines, representing the fertile soils of the Piave area.
The name 47 Anno Domini refers to 47 AD, the year Emperor Claudius completed the Claudia Augusta, an important Roman road that runs through the winery.
