Label / history
Piantaferro combines the Italian words “pianta,” meaning a plant or crop, and “ferro,” meaning iron or a stake. The name recalls a local farming tradition in which newly discovered fertile land was marked by driving a stake into the ground. The trademark depicts three stylized rows of vines representing the high fertility of the Piave area.
The wine is made at 47 Anno Domini, part of the Tombacco Group. The winery’s name refers to 47 AD, when Emperor Claudius completed the Claudia Augusta, an important Roman road. Its 25 hectares of vineyards now lie on both sides of this historic route, which passes through the winery.
