Questo vino
Vineyard and terroir
The Falanghina is grown in the province of Benevento. The other grapes come from Benevento or neighbouring provinces.
Grapes
The blend contains at least 85% Falanghina, with other white varieties, usually Fiano and Greco.
Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand and gently pressed. Alcoholic fermentation is stopped when the desired residual sugar level is reached.
Ageing
The wine rests briefly in stainless-steel tanks after fermentation.
Label / history
The name Piantaferro combines the Italian words pianta, meaning plant or crop, and ferro, meaning iron or rod. It recalls a local farming tradition in which growers marked newly discovered fertile land by driving a stake into the ground. The trademark depicts three stylised rows of vines, representing the fertility of the land around the Piave.
