Vineyard and terroir
The grapes are grown in Veneto in northern Italy. The winery has 25 hectares of vineyards on both sides of the historic Claudia Augusta road, several kilometres from the Adriatic coast and close to Treviso. The area lies near the Piave River, whose banks give the wines a distinctive character. The fertile soils are predominantly clay, with abundant mineral salts; Merlot is also cultivated on sites that are difficult to farm.

Label / history
“Piantaferro” combines the Italian words “pianta,” meaning plant or crop, and “ferro,” meaning iron or rod. The name refers to a local farming tradition of marking newly discovered fertile ground by driving a stake into it. The trademark depicts three stylized rows of vines, symbolizing the fertility of the Piave area.
The winery name, 47 Anno Domini, refers to AD 47, when Emperor Claudius completed the Claudia Augusta road, an important communication route through the Roman Empire. The historic road now runs through the winery.
