Vineyard and terroir

The grapes come from Viticcio’s own vineyards.

Vinification

The grapes are harvested by hand, with Merlot picked in the second week of September and Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese in the fourth week. Selection takes place twice, first in the vineyard and then by hand on a sorting table. The berries are gently crushed before maceration and fermentation in stainless-steel vats at a controlled temperature of 26–30 °C. Malolactic fermentation also takes place in stainless steel.

Ageing

The wine matures for 12 months in stainless-steel tanks and French oak barrels.

Vintage notes

In 2013, a mild, very rainy winter was followed by a late spring, with particularly low temperatures in March. Flowering was consequently uneven and extended over a long period. Conditions stabilized by late June, and the summer was dry, interrupted by occasional waves of hot air from Africa. Heavy rain at the end of August lowered average temperatures and produced a marked difference between daytime and nighttime temperatures, helping the grapes retain acidity while developing a good concentration of polyphenols. Ripening remained uneven despite excellent overall weather in September and October. Each variety in every vineyard was therefore harvested in at least two separate passes.
